If you are taking on an apprentice this year you may be eligible for subsidies through Australian Apprenticeships -  a federal government initiative.

By following their online process you can apply for the Priority Wage Subsidy, a wage subsidy for employers of Australian Apprentices training towards an occupation listed on the apprenticeships priority list.

You may be eligible to receive:

  • 10% of your apprentices wages paid to you for the first 24 months (up to $1500 per quarter)
  • 5% of your apprentices wages paid to you for the third 12 month period (up to $750 per quarter)

To be eligible to claim the Priority Wage Subsidy, an employer must:

  • register and use Single Touch Payroll for wage reporting to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), unless the ATO has granted an exemption.
  • provide accurate wage evidence and submit claims within 12 months of the effect date; and
  • not be in receipt of the Disablity Australian Apprentice Wage Support subsidy or any other federal, state or territory government wage subsidy or equivalent
    for the same Australian Apprentice
